Cast Members 3

The next two cast members are brothers, and they are playing "child a" and "child b."

Cast Member 2

Due to the next actor being under the age of 18, she is being called "teenager a."

Cast Member 1

I ask Ally, who is in her early twenties, and also went to a ballet school, so she was a perfect fit for a character who needed to dance. I asked her, and she was okay with it. However, a few days later she realised that she wasn't free and we had to change the dates.

My Chosen Target Audience

Pink = 15 - 20 Year Olds
Black = 21 - 25 Year Olds

After the research into "Meet Me On The Battlefield" which in my initial song choice study, people aged between 15 - 20 prefer the song because it isn't about romance and they also prefer narrative led videos that aren't romance led, therefore, 15 - 20 is my target audience

Also, studying the genre of "Meet Me On The Battlefield," and seeing the audiences of songs that meet the same genre, the age groups are very similar to the one I have chosen. Also, generally the audience for 'Meet Me On The Battlefield,' and for the singer, is females. So overall, I think my target audience is girls aged between "15 - 20/."

SONG - Meet Me On The Battlefield

My chosen song!

Song Choice

To decide between "Meet Me On The Battlefield By Svrcina" and "Wicked Game Performed By Ursine Vulpine," I created a survey and posted it onto my Tumblr Page, I got 37 responses:
Out of the 37 people that entered, 26 were female, 8 were male and 3 were other (transgender, genderfluid, non-binary....) The song that won most votes was "Song 2," which is "Meet Me On The Battlefield By Svrcina," with a staggering 30 votes out of 37.

27/37 of the participants were aged between "15 - 20" with 4/37  aged between "21-25." 1/37 was aged between "26 - 30." 1/36 were over 31 and only 2 were 14 or under.

Everyone aged between "15 - 20" voted for "Meet Me On The Battlefield," and most of them gave the same reason:

"Song 1 is a typical "broken-up" love song, the music video would be the same as videos that are released all the time. Song 2, could have be a more unique music video."

"Song 2 is very interesting, a lot of visuals come to mind! I am not that fond of Song 1, I can only think of relationships and it's a little cliche."

"I just like it better (though I may be biased because I've been a fan of the original version of Wicked Game since I was a kid so I'm not a fan of covers)."

"I don't like covers of classics. Also, the second one would make a interesting music video."

"Music videos this days are just copy and pasted! Girl runs after man who is little "dangerous" and it is just so boring these days! Song 2 could have just a interesting story line."

"More interesting. Song one is kinda stereotypical, a girl pining after some guy."

It seems that people aged between 15-20 dislike love songs with a passion, which is interesting; this will help when it comes down to creating the story for the music video and choosing my perfect target audience.

People aged older than 20 and younger than 15 seemed to go for song 1, probably because they are a different generation.

The MAIN reason that most audiences members preferred song 2 over song 1 was because that song 1 is a cover of Chris Isaac's Wicked Game and people dislike covers of classic songs.

The song I am evidently choosing for my music video is "Meet Me On The Battlefield."

Genre

Svrcina is an indie pop artist, therefore the genre of Battlefield and the genre of my music video needs to coincide with the genre. The conventions of Indie Pop music videos are sad stories, like Kodaline's Brother. The main settings are abandoned locations, empty households, and places like woods which can be seen in Faded By Alan Walker. To link back to this genre my music video should habour these ideas to make a product that my audience will feel familar with because my audience will be comfortable with the indie pop genre.

Permission To Use 2

I emailed David Gray, who is in charge of the legal action and asked for permission to use “wicked game,” in a music video, within the same day he replied, giving me permission to use it.

Permission To Use 1

I emailed Wendy Duffy, who is in charge of inquiries from press and fans of Svrcina. Within a week, she answered my request and gave me permission to use the song, “Battlefield,” if I leave Svrcina’s links in the description, if I am to upload the video onto YouTube.

Song Choice 1

Meet Me On The Battlefield

Svrcina previously known as ‘Molly Hunt,’ has written almost 400 songs and signed her first deal when she was only 13. She is widely popular through YouTube. She has one album titled, “Lover. Fighter,” which was released last year (2016.)

One song, “Battlefield,” sometimes titled, “Meet Me On The Battlefield,” was an instant hit and many fans wanted to speculate the meaning behind the song. The song is about two people meeting on a battlefield, this can been interrupted two different ways; on one hand the whole song is a metaphor for a couple’s breakup, which is how most people few it, however the song was used on the TV show, Containment,” which is about the end of the world and humanity.

After hearing the song, I wanted to see if I would be able to use it for my music video. I emailed the artist’s management, “Resin8” in order to request the use of the song.

Genre is folk/indie pop.

Song Choice 2

Wicked Game

Frederick Lloyd is a director, but he is famous for composing music for other people. He took Chris Isaac's Wicked Game and turned into a completely different song with a new overall feel, with Annaca’s unique vocals, the song sounded nothing like it’s original.

Annaca is not a famous, she is mostly only well-known for this song, which was released in 2016. The song was an instant hit, however because a music video was never created, Annaca’s face was then never known, not allowing her to gain the attention brought by the video.

The Genre is indie pop.

Titanium Music Video Analysis ft. Andrew Goodwin's therory

This is my analysis of music video "Titanium," by David Guetta Ft. Sia; this helped me in my research because I got to analysis the conventions of a narrative lead music video, also applying Andrew Goodwin's theory, I was able to see the stereotypes of music videos and how they implied it.

Friday 8 September 2017

Andrew Goodwin's Theory

  1.  Music videos are either performance, narrative or concept orientated. Performance led music videos are either dance led, or sometimes just the artist performing the song itself. Narrative led music video normally have a story line. Sometimes music videos are narrative led, but also have the vocalist singing.
  2. Music videos sometimes link directly aka illustrative what the song is about. Sometimes music videos do not link to the lyrics at all at first look, however they can have a deeper meaning that amplifies the lyrics. If a music video is narrative led, it can contradict the song's lyrics.
  3. All music genres do have their own style. For example, pop songs normally have a performance led music video, like dance.
  4. Some music videos, especially pop music videos have explicit representation of women; this sticks to the theory of the male gaze, that the camera is in fact a heterosexual man viewing a woman in a sexual way.
  5.  A music video has to have a star image of the main band and artist, so that the audience can associate themselves with them.
  6. Intertexuality doesn't always appear in the videos, but it is normal from popular films and tv shows that the audience will notice.

Finished Video

I created this edit to develop my skills in filming and editing. Throughout recording with the group I was walking with, I able to make executive decisions for shots and scenes we should include. I learnt how to track an entire scene and how it is important to use the camera to tell the story, instead of relying on the sound to solely control the narrative. When editing, I decided not to have the story in order, instead I used my editing to create flashbacks, to intrigue the viewers and also, develop my editing skills.

Editing this will strength my abilities when it comes to creating my music video because I was able to know what shot was could for a particular take and what order to place them in when it came down to editing, I could also match audio, both diegetic and non diegetic, with the scene itself.
